Set up automatic forward on your Gmail

We recently received a lot of questions about Gmail. One of the most commonly asked questions is how to set up a Gmail forwarding service, also known as a forwarding service. This means that an e-mail message sent to your Gmail account will be automatically forwarded to the email address you provided. This can also be multiple e-mail addresses. Today, these services are very smart to filter spam first and only forward important email, although of course that happens, you do not send e-mail is not real spam.

But the big question comes from many: Automatic forwarding, how do you do that?

Set up automatic forwarding

For this I have consulted the Gmail manual. This is not easy to find. The following is taken from

You can automatically forward your mail to another address. You can choose to forward all new mail or just certain messages.

Note: When your new mail is forwarded, spam messages will not be forwarded.

Enable auto forward

  1. Open Gmail on your computer through the account you want to forward the message to. You can only forward mail to a Gmail address, not a group or email alias.
  2. Click Settings in the upper right corner.

  3. Click Install.

  4. Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tabs.

  5. In the Forwarding section, click Add a forwarding address.

  6. Enter the email address you want to forward the message to.

  7. Click Next>Continue>OK.

  8. A verification message is sent to that address. Click the verification link in that message.

  9. Return to the settings page for the Gmail account you want to forward mail and

    refresh your browser.

  10. Select Forward a copy of the incoming message.

  11. Choose what you want to happen with Gmail’s email copy. We recommend that you select “Keep Gmail’s copy in the inbox.”

  12. Scroll down the page to save the changes.
